Running at Night | The Dew of Little Things | Sorry
This June 541 Art Space is collaborating with three Australian artists to present three exhibitions, Running at Night, The Dew of Little Things, and Sorry.
The exhibition in Gallery 1 titled Running at Night is the work of artist Janice Gobey. Concerned with the uncertainty and mistrust prevalent in today’s political climate, she uses fairy tales to communicate to the audience the trauma associated with war and displacement. Creating a sensory experience through her paintings and evoking emotions such as empathy and vulnerability.
Gallery 2 will exhibit the works of Yvette Kiddle in The Dew of Little Things. Yvette’s paintings depict the forgotten moments of mundane everyday life, which are often displaced by the noise and excitement of modern living and technology. Through her oeuvre she hopes to reconnect with the little things and emotions of love, despair, and frustration to stop the cycle of unattainable desire that forever lies beyond the current moment.
2016 Archibald finalist Daniel Butterworth will be exhibiting his show Sorry in Gallery 3. The exhibition is a formulated response to his exposure to the stories of Aboriginal people, and aims his brush at showing confrontational paintings that provoke discussions around the issue. He addresses the social injustices done on to the Aboriginal people and the consequential trauma that is prevalent today.
